Appalachia Service Project

Appalachia Service Project SM (ASP) provides one of the most rewarding structured service opportunities in the nation – bringing thousands of volunteers from around the country to rural Central Appalachia to repair homes for low-income families. ASP offers much more than just a building program. Appalachia’s poorest families urgently need help, but they can help change the lives of volunteers, too. Many ASP volunteers simply believe that, when you change the lives of others, they have a way of changing yours as well.

aspmissio09teamAfter a few days of hard work repairing homes with ASP, your hands will grow a little tougher, your arms a little stronger, and your relationship with God a whole lot deeper. You’ll return home to your community with a passion for service, a renewed compassion for other people, and a fresh appreciation for your place and purpose in this world. Best of all, you’ll discover first-hand that, regardless of geography, education, or economic class, we are all equal members in the family of God.

We like to say that our goal is to make homes “warmer, safer and drier” for needy families. For more than 40 years, we’ve done exactly that for thousands of families. Trinity has sent teams for the past 17 years to help change lives. Each summer in July, the Trinity ASP team, consisting of seven work crews, travels to Central Appalachia to spend a week repairing seven homes. The volunteers work together during the year doing three fundraisers (Roast Beef Dinner, Christmas Tree Sale, and the Banquet Auction) to raise the necessary funds for the trip. Approximately six weeks before the trip, the team gathers for training workshops where we prepare our hearts and our minds for this vital and life-changing mission.

Trinity supports and actively participates in ASP. For more information about Trinity’s next mission trip, or to receive an application, contact the church office at 908-852-3020. In addition, please visit the ASP website.

Midnight Run

What started in 1984 by a group in Dobbs Ferry, has grown to a collaborative effort of more than 150 community organizations. For over two years, the Midnight Run team at Trinity has conducted monthly Midnight and Breakfast runs into New York City.

Each month, clothing, bags of toiletries, and food are distributed to the homeless at various stops in the city. Midnight Run participants—all adults—testify to the very moving and enriching experience they receive as relationships with individuals in the city are developed.

For information regarding the Midnight Run Organization visit www.midnightrun.org.
