Who Are You to Love – Mar 3rd and 4th

Who has Jesus given you to love and care for? No doubt you have been given your family and close friends. But who else? Are you a sister, brother, father, mother, daughter, son to someone you aren’t related to by blood? Have you chosen to love and care for someone as if they were a blood relation? Who has Jesus given you to love and care for? In this third Sunday of Lent, we hear the words Jesus spoke to two of those closest to him. There weren’t many of his close friends or disciples there at the cross, but Mary, his mother, and John, the only one of the twelve, were. He turns to them and gives them to each other’s care: “Behold, your son. Behold, your mother.” The cross is all about love, isn’t it? And with these words, Jesus shows us that the love shown on the cross is to extend to one another as well. This weekend, we’ll be opening our hearts and lives to what God is inviting us through this passage, looking at the love, and especially the role of Mary in God’s plan of salvation. The passage where you’ll find this interaction in John 19:25-27.
