Family Reading Challenge
In honor of some of our families last day to school, we are gear up the first weekend in June. If things are too busy for folks still in session, simply pick up when you can or join during the weekends.
We will delve into the fascinating world of The Wingfeather written by Andrew Peterson. You can read out loud together or gobble the up On the Edge of the Dark Sea of Darkness yourself. Read at your own pace, just aim to finish by the end of June. During Quarantine, the author began reading out loud nightly. You can watch past episodes on Youtube, however, the first chapters of this book are not up, it starts with Chapter 4. (Not only that, but if you can listen to his other books too.)
Below ( or insert directional here) you will see a link to parents from the author as well as a link to youtube Storytelling. You will notice that there is a companion animated series as well. You may wish to wait to watch until after the book. The episodes are a delightful collaboration between many authors. Worthy to add to your Summer Series watch list!
Don't forget to post that you are participating on our Main Facebook Page or private Family Ministry FB page. If a Kidventure family needs assistance in purchasing the book, please reach out to Melissa at email@example.com.
You may purchase the new release hard copy at his store The Rabbit Room or at Amazon with both paper and Kindle versions. (At Amazon the paperback actually looks more expensive than the newly released HC edition.) Remember to use your Trinity UMC amazon smile account.
Andrew Peterson spins a quirky and riveting tale of the Igibys’ extraordinary journey from Glipwood’s Dragon Day Festival and a secret hidden in the Books and Crannies Bookstore, past the terrifying Black Carriage, clutches of the horned hounds and loathsome toothy cows surrounding Anklejelly Manor, through the Glipwood Forest to mysterious treehouse of Peet the Sock Man (known for a little softshoe and wearing tattered socks on his hands and arms).
Full of characters rich in heart, smarts, and courage, On the Edge of the Dark Sea of Darkness presents a world of wonder and a tale children of all ages will cherish, families can read aloud, and readers’ groups are sure to discuss for its layers of meaning about life’s true treasure and a tangle of the beautiful and horrible, temporal and eternal, and good and bad.
“A wildly imaginative, wonderfully irreverent epic that shines with wit and wisdom–and features excellent instructions on how to cope with Thwaps, Fangs, and the occasional Toothy Cow.”
–Allan Heinberg, writer/co-executive producer of ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy, and co-creator of Marvel Comics Young Avengers
“Sometimes, in order to find out who we were supposed to be, we need to get lost in other worlds: Oz, Camelot, Narnia. In On the Edge of the Dark Sea of Darkness, Andrew Peterson provides new and needed places like Aerwiar, Skree, and Glipwood–places where we need to get lost and found.”
–Michael Card, author of The Hidden Face of God and The Parable of Joy, and singer/songwriter of more than thirty albums
